Welcome to the latest update of the Pound-for-Pound MMA Fighting rankings, where each month an esteemed panel is ranked by buzz to answer one question: Who are the best overall male and female MMA fighters in the world ?
Best Fighter 2022
The Chechen fighter is one of three new names debuting this month on the men's pound-for-pound list. Now a perfect 12-0 in his career, Chimaev needed just two minutes to defeat Kevin Holland and re-establish himself as a title contender after a grueling week in Las Vegas in which he dropped 7.5 pounds to start of The Great Reshuffling ™ at UFC 279. With knockouts in five of his six UFC fights, Chimaev's fate as champion feels less likely than ever. It landed at number 20 on this month's list.

As for the other two, they don't need much introduction: Leon Edwards, who wrote a wonderful breakdown of No. Moraes. Because of their work, Edwards shot up to a well-deserved No. 4 in his first pound-for-pound, while the legendary Johnson was ranked No. 13.
For what comes next, all eyes will be on Oct. 22 when UFC 280 glory takes place in Abu Dhabi. Each of the event's three fights had a significant effect on the pound-for-pound rankings, but no more so than its main event: No. He couldn't wait.
Latest results for ranked fighters (showing previous rankings): Leon Edwards def. #2 Kamaru Usman, #11 Robert Whitaker beat Marvin Vettori, Demetrious Johnson beat #20 Adriano Moraes

The PFL standout is the only woman on our list to compete since the last pound-for-pound update, defeated by Martina Jindrova in just over three minutes. The win sets up a third meeting with Larissa Pacheco for Harrison, who is a perfect 15-0 in her MMA career. The two-time Olympic champion has defeated Pacheco twice - both times in 2019, both times by unanimous decision - so the odds will be in his favor when the two meet once more in November.
Looking ahead, the next six weeks are shaping up to be busy for the bottom half of the women's pound-for-pound rankings as three fighters - No. 13 Katlyn Chookagian, No. 17 Seika Izawa and No. 19 Mackenzie Dern - all look to defend their spots against unranked opposition. But that's not all: #3 ranked Cris Cyborg is back in action.
The Bellator featherweight champion is scheduled to make his professional boxing debut on September 25 against Simone da Silva in Brazil. Is Cyborg's move to boxing a one-off or a sign of things to come in her career? We will see.
