best quality 1911

Best Quality 1911 - Whether you work in a gun shop, collect guns, or search the internet for great gun pictures, it's easy to wade through the endless pile of cheap 1911 handguns. It's a trend since the patents of the beloved grandfather of modern guns, John Browning, have expired, with companies around the world making clones and even Chinese copies. The military wears patents and designs, although they don't necessarily have a good design against their soldiers. Springfield Armory's Defend your Legacy Series MIL-SPEC 1911 is cheap, but it's definitely not cheap. This is a very rare instance where the phrase "You get what you pay for" does not apply. Want to learn more? Let's dive into MIL-SPEC legal protection!

Springfield Armory has a line of three MIL-SPEC 1911 pistols, and all seem to have the same specs, except for some differences and grip changes. As I mentioned in the introduction, this 1911 is no different than any other budget 1911 out there. Looking at the specs below, this is definitely true. Some of the specifics are from my own observations of my gun reviews and Springfield Armory's instructions from their product page.

The image above shows the contents of what I call an older version of the Protect Your Rights MIL-SPEC box. The reason I say this is because Springfield Armory seems to have perfected an amazing collection of 1911s, which would be my criticism. The "original" box is bad, but it's clear that they tried to make everything as accessible as possible. It has fins on the inside of the cardboard, which I assume is to hold the gun in place somehow, but every box I have has the fins ripped open and floating with the rest of the box. The new package is the same as the Hellcat came in and even has a smaller case.

The MSRP for the Springfield Armory Legal MIL-SPEC 1911 is an impressive $549.99. That's right, you can get a 1911 match for just $500. Compared to others out there, this is an absolute steal! If you need a little character in your life, but still want it to have some nostalgic character, there are two additional MIL-SPECs that Springfield Armory has. The other two MIL-SPECs feature all the same specs, but with the added flair of Crossed Cannon's cocobolo grips, loaded with two magazines, and a choice of stainless finishes. The MSRP of the other two is $780 for the standard parker and $876 for the stainless.

Don't be fooled by scammers. Like bearded, flannel-clad hipsters, many 1911s out there just look the part. But Mil-Spec is true to its roots and steadfast to its core. Built on a forged frame and slide, the Mil-Spec continues Springfield Armory's long history of quality 1911s. Traditionally styled and built on a full Mil-Spec frame, it features a 5″ graded barrel and rear threads on the slide. The base is the original bow style found on GI-issue 1911-A1s, giving you a classic look with upgrades for improved performance and reliability. The first time I held the Springfield Armory MIL-SPEC Protect Your Law 1911 was at the gun shop I worked at, and let's just say it's a solid gun. It is solid, balanced and pleasant. I have met and held many 1911 clones, all of which shall remain nameless, and none of them seem like a cheap piece of nostalgia. The slide is nice and tight, the action doesn't feel weak or incomplete, and the hand feels natural and perfectly balanced in weight. The only odd thing about the whole deal is the old box, which seems to have been fixed since then.

All told, this authentic WW2 gun is a product of nostalgia. Parkerized and plain janey square wood handle makes it look perfect. Obviously, under the hood we have a stainless barrel that sets itself apart from other MIL-SPEC clones.

When it comes down to it, I have to admit that I've been on a lot of trips. Each time I aim to use different bullets so that the odds of it being a real weapon are very good. I am very pleased and proud to say that I have never noticed any deficiencies or signs of a broken period in the growth of its head. I use a CCI Blazer 230 lis FMJ, a Magtech 230 lis FMJ, a Federal Eagle 230 lis FMJ and about 165 grains of "low recoil" Federal hollow points.

I have zero criticisms when it comes to the display and shooting of a 1911. Everything works as it should. The release slide is smooth and easy. The climate is good and comfortable. The magazine is easy to print and comes out perfectly without tearing or sticking.

The target above is the first target I shot out of the box. It's at 20 yards and I'm very happy with it. I believe up and down that this gun will make me a better gun. I've never been very accurate, but my range has only gotten better when I use this gun. It is very clear to me that the durability of this pistol makes it very competitive with any investment 1911 you choose.

Sig 1911 Tacops Review

I held onto this budget 1911 for a long time before I could review it and say it was a good one. When I finally got some much-needed time off, it turned out to be an amazing gun show that made it to the stage over a century ago. It is smooth, narrow and dense. I truly believe that any 1911 fan and enthusiast would be delighted to own this fine example of craftsmanship and engineering.

The price point is more than fair and I don't think it will change a bit. The quality and beauty you get at an MSRP of $549 should give you confidence and trust in the company that made it and made it available to you. Beautiful nostalgia that is perfect, well worth the asking price. If anyone asks me about getting a good starter 1911, this is the direction I send them!

Finally, I want to thank Springfield Armory for allowing TFB and me to test the MIL-SPEC 1911! Thank you very much. Also, we want to know what you and the girls think? Just when I thought I had all the 1911 pistols I wanted, Springfield Armory comes up with something more important. The Ronin 1911 comes ready to roll with all the upgrades and features I want, and at an amazing price with an MSRP of just $849.

Range Report — Rock Island Compact 1911

Features I can't live without? Wrought metal. The 1911 equipment should last and be the best. The Ronin has a stainless steel frame and a carbon steel slide. A barrel made with a hammer rotates the ball. This makes Ronin a good choice.

There are some 1911 features that I feel are essential in my 1911 pistol. These features are functional and ergonomic, such as the tactical rear sight, high visibility front sight, and sheep grip safety. The Ronin has all three, starting with a dovetail fiber optic front sight that's good for competition, a two-dot tactical strip rear sight, and a well-designed safety grip with "miniature memory" for full engagement. The light weight adds to the appeal of this great gun.

Why is Ronin so great?
